Our History

The reason

The South Sheffield Partnership was conceived in 2001. The analysis at that time suggested that two major changes were on the horizon; firstly it was clear that the era of large pots of regeneration funding was coming to an end and secondly the major funders and contractors were increasingly reluctant to deal contractually with small organisations.

South Sheffield Partnership was a mechanism to bring together organisations that were leading regeneration locally to form a critical mass, both to be able to contract with the major funders, and to act strategically on area wide issues. The principle was strongly supported by the Local Authority.

How the Partnership was formed

An open invitation was made to neighbourhood Forums and Trusts in South Sheffield to opt to join this emerging organisation. 10 neighbourhoods took up the opportunity to represent their geographical communities and a BME Cluster network of organisations was set up to represent ethnic communities.

The Partnership's development

Manor and Castle Development Trust (MCDT) played a key role in facilitating the Partnership and ‘hosted' the Partnership in the beginning. In 2005 South Sheffield Partnership became an independent incorporated organisation in its own right, and a company limited by guarentee.

The Partnership's Extension

Between 2005 and 2006 Batemoor and Jordanthorpe, and Lowedges Forums were incorporated into the Partnership. They were joined in 2008 by Beighton Villages Development Trust.

In 2007 the Partnership rolled-out its membership to include any organisation or enterprise that provides services for people in South Sheffield. South Sheffield Partnership now has over 50 members with the shared goals of improving services in South Sheffield and giving a voice to its communities.
